  1. Whatever fans of this odd 1989 record? Its a live anthology, but its been heavily processed in the studio. Its quite electronic-sounding. No crowd noise, glossy and stiff. It has a potent period charm though I suppose fans of raw fare might exist put off. I merely revisited the CD last night and it sounded better than I recalled.

Any other examples of albums that follow this methodology? Rex Crimson'south "Starless and Bible Black" and Zappa'due south "Sheik Yerbouti" immediately leap to mind, though they've aged a bit more gracefully since the studio tinkering had a warm 70s charm.

  2. I always liked it, and I didn't realize at the time exactly what they had done with the material. I knew it had the feel of a compilation and there was prior material done in a dissimilar manner, but I could never quite put my finger on it. Alas, I didn't really care and merely turned information technology upward.
  3. Many other Zappa records
Grateful Expressionless's Canticle Of The Sun and Infrared Roses
Neil Young's Rust Never Sleeps and Life

I think nosotros accept had other threads about this. Never got around to hearing this Wire record although I have always been curious about information technology.

I like this album, fifty-fifty the 'tame-for-Wire-standards' hit single "Eardrum Buzz". Of course, information technology, and other records of the time agree a special place in my heart, as it was the time when I met my future married woman, and we were both working at a record shop in DC.
  5. I passed-upwardly the album at the time of release. I wasn't totally enamored of Wire'south evolution in the fourscore's.

I've seen the post BC Gilbert version of the band twice at present, and I hunted down everything I'd missed by the group later on seeing them on the Blood-red Barked Tree tour. IBTABA was one of the holes in my collection forth with the 4-vocal Eardrum Buzz EP and a couple other things. I must take heard $.25 of IBTABA at the time, but was turned-off by the idea of their re-recording recent material. In fact, the versions on that album are often superior to earlier recordings and I call back that was part of the album's inspiration, that the group was unhappy with some of their recent work.

Anyway, 23-years on I consider it a fine album in their catalog... much more satisfying than Manscape or The First Letter.

  6. I quite liked mid-80's Wire (for what it was) and idea IBTABA was a pretty skillful album. The version of Finest Drops blows away the earlier studio version especially.
  7. I need to listen to it again, I didn't like it when I get-go listened to information technology fifteen years ago, only I have a feeling I might change my heed if I give it another chance, which I call back I will exercise. I am a huge fan of Pinkish Flag and Chairs Missing. Thanks for bringing information technology upward!
  8. I just recently listened to "A Bong Is a Loving cup...Until It Is Struck", I really similar the finest drop. the instrumental and Kidney bingo
  9. Await, this is actually a live anthology? I've loved information technology for years but never picked upwardly on that; it certainly explains the much more aggressive edge. I ever figured they were so unhappy with the lackluster sound of A Bell Is A Cup that they re-recorded the stronger tracks. If I grab for a 2d-phase Wire LP, it's either IBTABA or The Ideal Copy.
  10. I loved their 80s electropop(ish) 80s era, and also love alternate versions of songs, then this 1 went downward quite well with me. I however relish information technology.
  11. four songs in, information technology's not bad, I dig it more than I remember at the fourth dimension I first listened to it. I call up I was wrong to just dismiss information technology outright, guess I was only pissed it wasn't pinkish flag expert at the time and.
  12. _The A List_ is an excellent compilation of 8os Wire.
  13. I actually really hope they bout the Us in 2013.
  14. They put this album out afterward somewhat disgruntled reception of their render - The Ideal Copy and A Bell Is a Cup. The versions recorded were originally live, merely for some strange reason they decided to add to them in the studio a la Talking Heads Finish Making Sense - which was a huge hitting.

I dear the versions here improve than their anthology versions. Only human being, they've got to remaster this thing. A gem in their itemize, but harsh every bit hell.

  15. There isn't much evidence of it, that's for sure. It's more than accurate to say that the bones tracks were live and there was all-encompassing studio work utilizing those basic tracks.
